Sole trader FAQs
Why do I need an accountant?
It’s true that anyone can use commercially available software to record their business activity, but hiring someone with the right level of experience and knowledge is the best way to ensure that you don’t inadvertently do something you shouldn’t, and allows you to focus on building your business, your way!
Does Making Tax Digital affect me?
If your self-employment and property income is over £50,000, MTD for Income Tax already applies to you. The threshold falls to £30,000 from April 2027 and £20,000 from April 2028. We’ll make sure you’re ready well before it applies to you.
Should I become a limited company?
It depends on your profits, your plans and your personal circumstances. We’ll talk it through with you, compare the numbers and, if it makes sense, handle the switch for you.
Do I need a separate business bank account?
Yes — keeping a separate account makes it easy to track your business’s financial activity and avoids confusion between your personal income and spending, and that of your business.
Is software included in my plan?
Yes — MTD-ready bookkeeping software is included in both our sole trader plans, so you can keep on top of your income and expenses.
What if I already have an accountant?
We can handle the transition for you. Our team will work with your previous accountant to make the switch smooth and stress-free.
